Our Services at the Learning Centre

The Learning Centre hosts a number of live online training sessions, panel discussions, networking opportunities, a Q & A forum and access to a range of Community of Advisors who provide expertise and consulting in their areas of expertise.

Here is a quick summary of what we have to offer at the Learning Centre:

FRL Bistro
...our new learning and training centre. We've used the theme of a Bistro to describe our unique blend of bite size pieces of information and full course comprehensive training programs that will tantalize your taste for an exciting palate of learning experiences.

The FRL Bistro is a place to engage in conversation. Meet 'friends' who are working in a similar organization or environment. Share and learn from each other and gain insights from our experienced group of facilitators.

The facilitators at the FRL Bistro are experienced professionals who will facilitate discussion, share resources and experiences to help expand your knowledge, skills and perspective.

The Bistro's Live Online Training Sessions and Courses
Live online training sessions are provided through the Learning Centre using an internet based  Training Centre. We see live online training as a way to create an online classroom where we can meet together just as we would if we attended a workshop in person. When you participate in a live online session you can raise your hand, participate in learning activities, contribute to brainstorming activities using a whiteboard, and break into small groups to work on case statements or activities. Collaboration is emphasized by our trainers and facilitators and the session is highly interactive. Audio is included through Voice over IP (VoIP) which allows discussion and participation through the use of a headset and microphone. Conference calling can also be an option.

There are some definite advantages to using live online training options, the primary one is the reduction of travel time and the costs associated with traveling to urban areas for the opportunity to participate. We also see some advantages in the increased opportunity to provide a wide range of sessions, access to high quality trainers and speakers and networking opportunities.

Through the FRL Bistro we will be providing:

Sometimes a little support can go a long way – the Q & A Forum provides you with an opportunity to ask our Community Advisors specific questions unique to your situation. By submitting your question online through the Q & A Forum a member of the Community of Advisors will provide you and your organization with support and direction.

Community of Advisors

Our Community of Advisors is a team of volunteers who are leaders in their field. They provide mentoring and learning opportunities to our Rural Development Officer Interns; helping them to develop a career in the non-profit and voluntary sectors within rural communities with a specialty in fund development.

The Community of Advisors is a unique opportunity to connect with rural organizations. If you believe in building the capacity of organizations at the grassroots level and have a desire to help rural organizations respond to the needs of their communities then our Community of Advisors may be an opportunity for you to explore.
