Building Vital Rural Communities Conference

March 19, 2008  - The Foundation for Rural Living regrets to announce our Building Vital Rural Communities Conference will not be continued as a learning and development strategy of FRL. "Our work in 2008 will be focused on developing partnerships to support our Learning & Resource Centre at www.ruralphilanthropy.ca and our Rural Development Officer Program" says Anita Hayes, Executive Director at Foundation for Rural Living.  "Providing training and learning opportunities through the use of webinars will continue to be a strategy that FRL will pursue over the next year as part of our Learning & Resource Centre. In addition our library and e-newsletter will highlight resources, research and grant opportunities for rural organizations".

The Rural Development Officer program engages rural nonprofit organizations in a training, coaching and mentoring program that assists them in building a financial sustainable organization. Since 2004 over 77 rural nonprofit organizations in Ontario and Nova Scotia have participated in this unique program.

The Board of Directors is currently pursuing our 8th Annual Awards of Rural Excellence . "This is a great opportunity for FRL to recognize and support the valuable contribution of those people and organizations making a difference in rural communities across Ontario. " says Hayes.

While the Building Vital Rural Communities Conference was a very successful project FRL continues to maintain a strong focus on the needs of rural nonprofit organizations through our Learning & Resource Centre and our Rural Development Office Program.
